The bai Initiative

The bai program is comprised of four primary elements designed to work together and serve as supportive stepping stones toward the achievement of its overall mission. These four elements, Professional Mentoring Program, Historical Black College Tour, Corporate Scholarship Program and Corporate Internship Program foster hope and aspiration in the young people of our community while providing experiences that lead to opportunities for academic access and the development of critical leadership skills.

The Impact of Our Work

  • Nine hundred youth will receive a literacy-based afterschool alternative during the critical unsupervised hours of 3pm – 6pm, where they engage in interactive learning models that build critical thinking skills which supplement what they learn during their school day

  • Twenty-five bai corporate scholarship recipients have demonstrated academic achievement and leadership skills through paid internship positions at bai sponsoring corporations, giving them relevant and necessary training to move forward in pursuing their careers

  • Four hundred summer day campers were introduced to positive and creative experiences that built their leadership and social skills, through high quality summer learning initiatives that helped them to retain skills and knowledge learned during the school year

  • Thirty-two junior high and high school teens are linked to bai corporate selected Achievers, to provide one-on-one mentoring opportunities that support youth with attaining their educational, social and professional goals

Empowering Brands and Shaping Global Digital Landscapes

2012 Youth Achiever2023 Global Content Strategy Manager

Khalia received her Bachelor’s Degree in International/Global Studies from Spelman College, and interned at IPG’s Hill Holliday and Marsh & McClennan
Companies Inc. through the bai Internship program.

In her position as Global Branded Content Strategy Manager at Condé Nast, Khalia is a globally knowledgeable social media marketer and digital content creator with a proven track record of innovating and delivering results for the world’s top luxury beauty and lifestyle brands, including L’Oreal, Vogue, GQ, Harlem’s Fashion Row, and Bon Appetit. She currently serves as Social Media Director at Braxton & Co. in the New York City area.

Transforming Lives through Mentorship and Youth Empowerment

1990 Youth Achiever2023 Founder of New B.O.Y. Mentoring

As a teen, Kareem participated in the Harlem Y’s karate program and volunteered at the Harlem Y before moving to Indianapolis and supporting the Fall Creek YMCA, where he worked as a Swim Instructor and later, Youth Director. He also worked as a financial specialist and broker.

Through his YMCA experience, Hines discovered working with youth was his calling. He left the financial field and became a certified youth mentor working with local schools. In 2005 Hines took his mentorship to the next level and founded New BOY, a full time Mentoring & Life Skills Coaching operation.

Advocating for Justice and Empowering Families

2010 Youth Achiever2023 Litigation Attorney

Danielle received her bachelor’s degree in Psychology at University of Richmond, and her JD at Loyola University of Chicago School of Law. Her goal to become
a Family Court Judge was inspired by the Y’s Teen Career Connection internship with the Legal Aid Society.

Danielle interned and clerked at Arnstein & Lehrer LLP before assuming her current position as a member of the Litigation Department in Saul Ewing Arnstein
& Lehr in the firm’s Chicago office.

Guiding Futures Through Education & Leadership

2005 Youth Achiever2023 Chief Program Officer

Isaiah attended the Harlem Y’s afterschool program and took physical education classes at the Harlem Y during high school. Isaiah received his Bachelor’s Degree in Comparative Ethnic Studies from Columbia University, taught middle school children in Harlem and Newark and later focused on teacher coaching and leadership development with KIPPNYC and KIPP School Leadership Program. After experiencing success while instructionally coaching and developing staff, Isaiah was appointed the role of Principal of KIPP Philadelphia Preparatory Academy.

Isaiah is currently Chief Program Officer at Common Ground Foundation, Inc. He is one of the most honest and forward thinking leaders in the Urban Education space and continues to be honored and recognized for his leadership. In 2022, Isaiah was accepted into the first ever Surge Academy Philly cohort and in 2023 he was named the Director of Community Engagement for the Black Alumni Council of Columbia University.
